Infrastructure: CommunicationsNAP of the Americas® For South Florida, the NAP of the Americas® provides enhanced broadband connectivity for the Western Hemisphere. Based in Miami and operated by Terremark Worldwide, this is the fifth Tier-1 Network Access Point (NAP) in the world. Network access points are locations where two or more networks meet to interconnect and exchange Internet and data traffic, much like air carriers meet at airports to exchange passengers and cargo. Instead of airlines and transportation companies, however, participation in NAPs comes from telecommunications carriers, Internet service providers and large telecommunications and Internet users in general. The NAP of the Americas provides carrier-neutral connectivity, bilateral and unilateral peering, colocation and a full menu of managed services for companies serving the Americas, the Caribbean and Europe. Peak 10 Data Center Solutions Fiber Optics Greater Fort Lauderdale is connected locally, regionally and worldwide through an extensive network of fiber-optic cable and connection points. Submarine cables connect Broward and the rest of South Florida with Latin America, the Caribbean and Europe. Within the county, multiple carriers have deployed fiber optic SONET rings, connecting business centers. Most Broward commercial properties are served by fiber from these metro rings with direct connections or fiber to the curb available for connections. Commercial properties are typically served by multiple providers, offering business customers a choice of carriers.
