The Florida Chapter of the American Planning Association (FAPA) has recognized the City's "MainStreet Design Standards" project with an Award of Excellence in planning. A MainStreet (http://coconutcreek.net/newsite/mainstreet/overview.asp) concept is underway in the heart of Coconut Creek that includes the Silver LEED Certified Promenade at Coconut Creek, a life-style center for retail and commercial use. The vision is a sustainable downtown environment that embodies the distinctiveness of Coconut Creek and will serve as a local and regional destination. The MainStreet project will cover over a million square feet of commercial development, 2,700 residential units, 1,300 hotel rooms, 300,000 square feet of community facilities, large open space and recreation components, and 14 acres of conservation.
