This year’s Emerging Business Technologies Showcase (ETBS) presenters will be storming the stage under the theme “South Florida’s Got Talent”, and rival the popular TV show entertainers with their creativity, enthusiasm and showmanship. However, the performances expected at ETBS have a lot more to do with entrepreneurship than entertainment. As a matter of fact, all ETBS presenters are entrepreneurs carefully selected by the Enterprise Development Corporation (EDC). The annual conference, co-hosted by the EDC and South Florida Technology Alliance (SFTA), is in fact Florida’s premier event for entrepreneurs, business leaders, investors and service providers to network and learn about South Florida’s most promising technology startups. From the dreamer inventor to the serious investor, ETBS has been catering to the Florida entrepreneurship ecosystem for almost twenty years, and always does so with a bang.
This year promises to be no different, as the cream of the crop line-up includes success stories in medical technology, avatar text-to-speech technology, and B2B mobile apps. Entrepreneurs, business leaders and investors will learn how last years’s presenter, Kipu Medical Systems went from 1 to 50 clients in a matter of months, and how out-of-the-box thinking resulted in $1.5 Million funding for Gui.de, a startup that endeavors to turn the web into TV.
This year’s keynote speakers will include Dean Hovey, CEO of Digifit, and entrepreneurial surgeon Dr.Alejandro Badia. Mr. Hovey will be sharing his years of experience as entrepreneur, as VC, as co-founder of IDEO, and as the original Apple designer and computer mouse inventor. Dr. Badia is currently the head of the Badia Hand to Shoulder Center in Doral and previously served as chief of hand surgery at Baptist Hospital of Miami. Recently, Dr. Badia inaugurated OrthoNOW, a center that was officially franchised this year and is actively engaging healthcare entrepreneurs and surgeons, here and abroad to open orthopedic urgent care facilities.
This year’s ETBS will take place on Thursday, November 14, 2013 from 8AM to 8PM, at the DoubleTree Hilton Hotel Deerfield Beach (100 Fairway Drive, Deerfield Beach). For more information, please visit www.edc-tech.org
