BCOESBD- U.A.E. Projects of the 50 Luncheon discussion

The U.S.-U.A.E. Business Council and Broward County Office of Economic and Small Business Development invite you to attend a luncheon discussion at 1 PM on Monday, May 16th at The Tower Club in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida to learn more about the U.A.E.’s signature new social and business reform program called the “Projects of the 50.” The presentation will also focus on opportunities for U.S. companies to grow and expand their business in the U.A.E.
This luncheon will feature remarks by Her Excellency Amna Almheiri, U.A.E. Consul General in New York City, Afshin Molavi, a Senior Fellow at Johns Hopkins University SAIS, and Courtney Nowell, Partner at leading global law firm Morgan Lewis. Mayor Michael Udine of Broward County, Mayor Dean Trantalis of Fort Lauderdale, and Mayor Wayne Messam of Miramar will also make remarks.
As part of the U.A.E.’s Golden Jubilee 50th anniversary celebrations in December last year, the U.A.E. government announced an ambitious program of new initiatives and reforms -- the “Projects of the 50”-- looking to the next 50 years. These programs will undergird two ambitious goals set out by U.A.E. leaders: to double the size of the U.A.E. economy over the next decade, and to “create the most dynamic economy in the world.” The U.A.E. intends to establish itself as one of the top ten hubs in the world by the end of the decade.
After opening remarks by H.E. Amna Almheiri, Afshin Molavi will discuss the impetus behind these reforms in the context of the “competitive game of nations,” as well as the U.A.E.’s reorientation of its foreign policy to put the “economy first." Courtney Nowell will then share practical guidance on important legislative and policy aspects of the Projects of the 50, and what they mean for companies looking to do business in the U.A.E.
Finally, Mayor Michael Udine of Broward County, Mayor Dean Trantalis of Fort Lauderdale, and Mayor Wayne Messam of Miramar will share key takeaways from their recent 5-day visit to the U.A.E. and associated opportunities to enhance economic collaboration between the U.A.E. and Florida. In 2021, Florida exported over $1 billion of goods to the U.A.E., making it one of the top 10 states exporting to the Emirates. Florida also imported over $180 million of goods from the U.A.E. that same year.
