Cloud Computing Initiatives
President Barack Obama has charged U.S. Chief Information Officer Vance Hitch with improving performance and lowering the cost of government operations by leveraging cloud computing. An essential element for success is the maturation of cloud computing through research in key enabling technologies and national technical standards for interoperability, portability and security.
Under the direction of Mr. Hitch and the Commerce Department’s National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), Dawn Leaf, NIST’s Senior Executive for Cloud Computing, has been charged with developing the government’s cloud computing standards and implementation. At the presentation, Ms. Leaf will provide an overview of NIST’s cloud computing initiatives.
The evening’s program will address:
· The development, identification and application of cloud computing technologies
· The formation and application of technical standards and requirements
· The collaborative process across the information technology ecosystem, integrating government and private sector service providers and practitioners
· The procurement and business opportunities for the private sector
