Employers can offer their employees who are parents a choice of highly rated public or private schools in Greater Fort Lauderdale. The county's K-12 programs range from international business programs to the arts, sciences and technology-focused curricula.  

Broward County Public Schools (BCPS) is the sixth-largest public school system in the nation and the second largest in Florida. BCPS serves more than 260,000 students and approximately 175,000 adult students in 241 schools, centers and technical colleges, and 92 charter schools. The district has more than 14,000 full-time instructional staff members, and approximately half hold advanced degrees.

BCPS is committed to excellence in education and was honored in 2018 as the first district in the U.S. to receive the Cambridge District of the Year distinction. The award recognizes a district for attaining high academic achievements among students participating in Cambridge programs and for increasing Cambridge opportunities across the district. In 2020, approximately 1,600 BCPS seniors earned the Florida Academic Scholars Bright Futures Scholarship, which pays 100 percent of Florida public college or university tuition.

BCPS serves a diverse population with students representing 170 countries and regions, and 147 different languages. All district schools, K-12, are accredited by AdvancedED, a global leader in advancing education excellence.

Greater Fort Lauderdale is also home to more than 60 private and independent schools that meet a variety of student academic and personal needs. More than 30,000 children in Broward attend non-public schools, which offer programs from early childhood education through 12th grade. These schools welcome calls for information and are happy to arrange family visits to their campuses. Many also offer bus transportation.

Higher Education

A wide range of colleges and universities serve Greater Fort Lauderdale/Broward County, with 35 institutions being located within a 30 mile radius of Fort Lauderdale. These include both state and private-sector institutions offering associate's, bachelor's, master's and doctoral degree programs. Companies from the industries identified by the Greater Fort Lauderdale Alliance as the focus for growth in the County, together with a broad spectrum of education leaders and others, develop education initiatives aimed squarely at those industries.

Such collaborative ventures include pre-kindergarten through 20th grade and post-secondary initiatives: industry-specific technical school training for adults and high school populations; community college and other 2-year college programs (degreed and non-degreed); four-year university programs; post-graduate programs; continuing education and professional development programs; literacy and entry-level training; and community adult education programs.
