Joseph Hovancak named Executive Director of Six Pillars Broward

(March 31, 2020) Bob Swindell, President and CEO of the Greater Fort Lauderdale Alliance (the Alliance) has announced the appointment of Joseph E. Hovancak as Executive Director of Six Pillars Broward. Six Pillars Broward is the community’s strategic visioning initiative for economic development in Broward County, which is managed by the Alliance, Broward County’s official public/private partnership for economic development. Six Pillars Broward Launches Version 2.0

In 2019, Six Pillars Broward Launched Version 2.0, which will focus on ten key issues of importance to Broward County over the next five years. Those issues are:

Affordable Housing

Development of a Community Brand

Building on our Entrepreneurial Ecosystem

Prosperity Broward

Growing our Target Industry Clusters

Homelessness

Building and Branding Broward County/Greater Fort Lauderdale as a Talent Hub

Social Justice / Racial Equity

Resiliency

Transportation

Goals, strategies and tactics are currently being developed for each of the ten issues.

History of Six Pillars Broward

In 2011, more than 350 Broward County business, civic, academic and government leaders, volunteers and community residents began the process of developing a strategic visioning plan through the year 2030, using the Six Pillars framework of the Florida Chamber Foundation as a strategic planning tool. The plan was developed over the next year and launched in October 2012.

Six Pillars is meant to help communities prosper and create high paying jobs by developing and implementing a visioning process through 2030. The Six Pillars framework is the product of collaboration and research by the Florida Chamber Foundation, working with many other partners. It identifies the critical factors determining Florida’s future and that of its communities. They are as follows:

Quality of Life & Quality Places

““Our goal is to bring as many stakeholders as possible into Broward’s Six Pillars planning process,” said David Armstrong, one of the Six Pillars co-chairs and president of Broward College. “Members of our community will have an opportunity to jointly agree on priorities for our County, make decisions that prompt action, measure progress, and make periodic adjustments to the Plan when appropriate.”

“Each of the Six Pillars topics is important in its own right," said Broward County Commissioner Chip LaMarca and a Six Pillars co-chair. “When we bring them all together to develop a strategic vision, we will most assuredly impact our future success by creating high wage jobs, a vibrant community prepared for the future and the tools we need in Broward County to compete in an increasing global competitive environment.”
