Moss & Associates Receives Safety Award For the Ivy and Mint Mixed-Use Projects

MIAMI, FL - Moss & Associates, one of Florida's largest construction management companies, has received the Florida Sunshine State Safety Recognition Award for its workplace safety programs at the $237 million Ivy and Mint residential/mixed-use developments project. The towers share the same site along the Miami River in downtown Miami.

"Keeping a complex jobsite safe takes education and daily focus from every employee and subcontractor on the project," said Joe Harris, executive vice president with Moss & Associates, which is building the adjacent riverfront towers for Key International Development. "We're proud of the construction team's efforts in earning this recognition."

The University of South Florida's Safety Consultation Program presents this award to proactive companies that demonstrate effective safety and health management systems in the field, as well as on paper, and continuously strive to improve their efforts. Only about 5 percent of all companies or projects that participate in the USF Consultation Program receive this award. In 2006, a Moss/Anderson joint venture was honored with the first USF Sunshine State Safety Award, and since then, Moss has received six of the 22 awards given to contractors statewide.

The federal Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA) has twice recognized Moss' commitment to workplace safety through its Safety and Health Achievement Recognition Program (SHARP), in 2006-07 and 2007-09. In addition, Moss is one of just seven contractors awarded Liberty Mutual Insurance Group's Gold Safety Award this year, for outstanding project safety records. Liberty Mutual presents Gold Safety Awards to less than 1 percent of its contracting customers nationwide, and since early 2007, Moss & Associates has received five of the prestigious awards.

Mint is a 52-story, 1.3 million-square-foot residential/commercial tower on the Miami River. It includes 530 residential units, six commercial units and a nine-floor parking garage. Completion is scheduled for May 2009.

The Ivy is a 1.1 million-square-foot residential/mixed-use development with condominiums, spa, garage and restaurants. Located on a 13.5-acre site in downtown Miami, the project is scheduled for completion in July 2008.

Moss & Associates is a privately held construction company that is ranked among the nation's top 100 building contractors and fourth largest in Florida, with annual revenues exceeding $649 million in fiscal year 2007. Through its headquarters in Fort Lauderdale, and regional offices in Miami and Ocala, the firm provides design-build, general construction, construction management and preconstruction consulting services for projects throughout the United States, Bahamas and Caribbean.

The firm's financial stability, market reputation and long-term executive relationships have provided them the opportunity to construct some of the state's most unique and logistically challenging projects - from major landmark mixed-use urban developments, government buildings and high-rise structures to luxury hotels, commercial office buildings, schools, retail establishments, health care and life sciences facilities and correctional facilities, among others.

In the past four years alone, Moss has been involved with more than $1.3 billion of construction assignments in Miami-Dade County specifically. Among their most notable projects are the University of Miami's $133 million Biomedical Research Center, Garage and Central Energy Plant located at the Jackson Memorial Hospital campus; the $158 million Downtown Dadeland and $98 million Colonnades mixed use developments near the Dadeland Mall; the $400 million Florida Marlins Stadium; and the $34 million Plaza San Remo Medical Office, Garage and Retail Center across from Sunset Place.
