Moss & Associates Receives Sunshine State Safety Awards for Public and Private-Sector Projects

Fort Lauderdale, FL - Moss & Associates, one of Florida's largest construction management companies, recently received Florida Sunshine State Safety Recognition Awards for two projects: the Soho Beach House resort in Miami Beach, and the new U.S. Customs and Immigration Service (USCIS) field office in West Palm Beach.

Known for its industry-leading workplace safety programs at public- and private-sector jobsites, Moss has received nine Sunshine State Safety awards from the University of South Florida's (USF's) Safety Consultation Program since last July. Other Moss projects recognized with the awards were Mint and The Ivy, two luxury Miami condominiums; the Marion County Emergency Operations Center (EOC) in Ocala; the University of Miami's Biomedical Research Building and Parking Garage/Central Energy Plant in Miami; and new Publix supermarkets in Miami and Hialeah.

"We focus on improving safety practices at every project statewide, making sure our subcontractors become very involved in the educational process," said Brian Trusky, Moss vice president - loss prevention. Moss & Associates is also using innovative techniques like "data mining" to analyze accident patterns; and deploying automated external defibrillators (AEDs) on each of its job sites, accelerating a life-saving response in the event of a cardiac arrest.

Since USF launched the Florida Sunshine State Safety Recognition Awards program in 2006, Moss has received more awards than any Florida-based construction services firm. "Moss' company-wide clarity about safe work practices translates into meeting schedules, boosting morale, establishing higher levels of expectation for the safety performance of subs, and delivering projects on time and on budget," said Charlene D. Vespi, program director, USF Safety Consultation Program. Only about 5 percent of all companies or projects that participate in the USF program receive this award.

Based on the company's awards and its investment in safety education with subcontractors, we are pleased to consider Moss & Associates our leading partner in construction management safety in the state of Florida," added Vespi.

In addition to the Sunshine State safety awards, Moss has been recognized twice by the federal Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA) through its Safety and Health Achievement Recognition Program (SHARP), in 2006-07 and for 2007-09. In addition, Liberty Mutual Insurance Group has presented Moss with seven Gold Safety Awards--six for specific jobsites, and one for overall program excellence. The insurer presents the Gold Safety Award to less than 1 percent of its contracting customers nationwide.
