South Florida's most influential people weigh in on current events:  {Read her thoughts on the biggest stories of the week and see what they think will make headlines next week.]

Last week: Last week the city of Pembroke Pines hosted the Greater Fort Lauderdale Alliance’s quarterly board meeting. It was exciting to see their new city center and amazing growth and development emerging in western Broward County. It is evident that city officials, planners, and residents are working together to create livable spaces where people can work, live and play together. The new Charles Dodge City Center combines meeting space, art galleries and City Hall offices all in one place. And, it connects by road and sidewalks to housing, shopping and commerce. Congratulations to Pembroke Pines.

Looking ahead: With the “dog days of summer” coming upon us, I still chose Fort Lauderdale and our summer heat over any place else. After traveling and enjoying some new experiences this summer, I am happiest when returning home and enjoying our beautiful beaches and parks, time on the water, great friends, and a strong business environment. We have so much to be thankful for in South Florida, and coming home to a beautiful place filled with dynamic and diverse people still tops my list.
