Wayman Aviation Donates Cessna 402 to Broward College Emil Buehler Aviation Institute

FORT LAUDERDALE, FL – Local high school aviation students, part of the first ever career dual-enrollment program at Broward College, are about to gain real-world experience working on a Cessna 402 Businessliner, twin-engine piston aircraft. Wayman Aviation donated the plane to Broward College this week.

“We appreciate the partnership with Wayman and their dedication to helping us train the next generation of aircraft maintenance technicians,” said Russell McCaffrey, dean of Broward College’s Transportation Programs. “This donation will help us train students with the knowledge they need to be successful in this lucrative career field.”

This brings the total number of aircraft at Broward College’s Emil Buehler Aviation Institute located on the Judson A. Samuels South Campus in Pembroke Pines to eight, more than the national average for aviation schools.

The Cessna 402, valued at nearly $150,000, is considered a workhorse of the Caribbean. It’s one of the most popular piston charter aircraft in the industry, which means students will be able to easily apply their knowledge to jobs in the Bahamas and the Caribbean. The Cessna is located in the hangar adjacent to the high school classroom and will be instrumental in students completing the general requirements of their FAA Airframe and Powerplant certifications.

"Wayman Aviation is proud to support Broward College's students gain the hands-on knowledge that is essential to satisfy the current pilot and technician shortage," said Eddy Luy, Vice President of Wayman Aviation, which has hired nearly a dozen apprentices from Broward College’s Aviation Maintenance program over the years.

There are 39 students in grades 10-12 from Miramar High School enrolled in the career dual-enrollment program, the first of its kind in Broward County. A notable 30 percent of the class is female.
