City Furniture names new president

By Brian Bandell  – Senior Reporter, South Florida Business Journal

City Furniture has promoted Andrew Koenig, the son of co-founder Keith Koenig, to president.

The Tamarac-based, family-owned company was established 47 years ago and has grown to include 29 City Furniture and Ashley HomeStore locations in Florida. It ranked No. 15 on the Business Journal’s list of largest private companies in South Florida with $363.8 million in revenue in 2017.

Andrew Koenig was chief operating officer of the company and worked to boost efficiency. He’s been with the company for 15 years. While he will relinquish the president job to his son, Keith Koenig will remain the company's chief executive officer.

"As COO, Andrew’s leadership has been transformational in every aspect of our operations, marketing, merchandising and human resources,” said Keith Koenig. “His track record for anticipating and realizing the potential of major economic and industry trends has positioned us to continue City Furniture’s significant statewide growth.”

As president, Andrew Koenig will seek to further boost efficiency at the 1,850-person company using a “lean management” system and advanced technology.

Andrew Koenig holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting and finance from Elon University and an MBA from Nova Southeastern University. He’s on the board of Junior Achievement of South Florida.

City Furniture is in the middle of a $100 million expansion with four new showrooms expected to open by November and expects to create 400 jobs this year.

Three of the new locations will be in Central Florida and one is under construction near the Dolphin Mall in west Miami-Dade County.
