FAU Launches a New 2nd Degree Part-Time BSN Track for Working Professionals

In response to the strong demand for qualified health care professionals, FAU has launched a new nursing program for working professionals (starting in the fall of 2019) at our Davie Campus in Broward County!  It is a part-time BSN track designed for those who seek an accredited nursing degree while they are employed. 

Fall 2019 application period: March 15, 2019 - July 15, 2019 | Fully Offered at Davie Campus only. Classes begin August 17, 2019!

Florida Atlantic University’s (FAU) Christine E. Lynn College of Nursing has launched a new second-degree part-time track in the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) Program on the Davie Campus.  The goal of the Second Degree Part-time BSN Track is to prepare working professionals, who have a bachelor degree or higher in another discipline, as professional nurses who are eligible to take the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN®) to secure licensure as a Registered Nurse. Graduates are conferred the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree.

According to Dr. Karethy Edwards, Associate Dean for Academic Programs, “the part time track offers students the opportunity to continue working while pursuing their nursing degree.” Course scheduling formats will include a live class one evening a week, weekends, on-line courses, and live streaming delivery course formats. With enrollments in six consecutive semesters, students can complete their BSN degree in 2 years. 

Second Degree Part Time Track Features

  • Dedicated State-of-the-Art Education Facility on the Davie campus
  • Clinical experiences in Broward County
  • Each class begins and progresses through the program as a group, sharing the same sequence of classes and educational experiences
  • VIP Concierge Service - The full service, all-inclusive track is specially designed for those with busy personal and professional commitments as well as for those who prefer the convenience of a full service, structured, cohort program. A dedicated Program Advisor is assigned to the cohort along with onsite support staff.

Program Tuition includes:

  • Assessment technology fees, testing fees, parking permit, student ID card, catered refreshments and snacks, uniforms and lab coat, equipment, Graduation Regalia, recording of select courses,Pre-Program orientation and a graduation banquet.  

Tuition is the same for Florida Residents, Out-of-state Residents & International Students ($719.84 per credit hour). Methods of Payment include; Financial Aid, Tuition Reimbursement and a Self-Pay option. A convenient installment payment plan is available to students who choose the Self Pay option. Tuition is deferred pending payment of Financial Aid and/or Tuition Reimbursement, if paperwork is submitted.

The FAU Christine E. Lynn College of Nursing is nationally and internationally known for its excellence and philosophy of caring science. The FAU College of Nursing is ranked number 1 in online nursing programs in Florida and 23rd in the nation by US News and World Report. In 2017, with a 100% pass rate on the NCLEX-RN licensure examination, FAU BSN graduates, first time test takers, ranked among the highest (#1) in Florida and the United States. The Christine E. Lynn College of Nursing is fully accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). 

The Second Degree Part-Time track starts Saturday, August 17, 2019. Dr. Nancey France, Assistant Dean of the BSN Program, "we will begin accepting applications March 15, 2019 and the application period closes July 15, 2019."

Admission Requirements

  1. A Bachelor’s degree or graduate degree in another discipline.

    2.   Interview 

The following are prerequisite courses:  

  • Anatomy & Physiology I with Lab
  • Anatomy & Physiology II with Lab
  • Microbiology with Lab
  • College Algebra or equivalent
  • Statistics
  • English Composition I
  • English Composition II
  • Introduction Sociology (or higher)
  • Introduction to Psychology (or higher)
  • Human Growth & Development through Lifespan
  • Chemistry with Lab
  • Nutrition

 All Pre-requisites must have a minimum ‘C’ earned in these courses. Pre-requisite courses must be completed before classes start Fall August 17, 2019.
