Spirit Airlines to relocate headquarters, create 250 jobs - SFBJ
By Ashley Portero – Reporter, South Florida Business Journal
Spirit Airlines will build a new global headquarters in Dania Beach, the airline announced Thursday. The project is expected to be completed by mid-2022.
Currently headquartered in Miramar, the publicly traded company (NYSE: SAVE) will move 1,000 employees to the planned 500,000-square-foot campus. The airline will also make 250 new hires.
"We look forward to creating more jobs and driving future economic development as South Florida’s hometown airline," Spirit CEO Ted Christie said in a statement.
The headquarters will be located at Dania Pointe, a mixed-used development that includes retail space, restaurants and housing. The facility will include corporate offices and a new crew training center equipped with flight simulators.
Spirit estimates the project will cost $250 million over the next 36 months.
Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport CEO Mark Gale said the new campus, located just minutes from the airport, will make room for future growth of the airline.
"Having an international airline headquarters close to FLL puts us in good company with a handful of other major airports across the country," Gale said. "This new investment will help bring more guests through the airport and help grow our position as an international gateway to Latin America, the Caribbean and beyond.”
Spirit operates 600 daily flights to 76 destinations in the U.S., Latin America and the Caribbean. It's one of South Florida's largest public companies.
