Broward County June jobs increased by 34,800 year over year (+4.4%)
(Fort Lauderdale, FL) – Broward County’s job report indicated a 5.7 percent unemployment rate in June 2021. This rate was 8.3 percentage points lower than the region's year ago rate of 14.0 percent. The labor force was 1,055,676, up 33,703 (+3.3 percent) over the year. There were 60,664 unemployed residents in the region.
Nonagricultural employment in the Ft. Lauderdale-Pompano Bch-Deerfield Bch Metro Division was 816,900, an increase of 34,800 jobs (+4.4 percent) over the year.

Data and Analysis
Broward County COVID -19 crisis recovery efforts are continuing to show positive results. In the month of June, a majority of industries gained jobs compared to the previous year, with the exception of Manufacturing (-300 jobs, -1.1%)
The leisure and hospitality (+23.4 percent); other services (+9.9 percent); trade, transportation, and utilities (+3.9 percent); construction (+3.9 percent); education and health services (+3.0 percent); and government (+0.8 percent) industries grew faster in the metro area than statewide over the year.
The Ft. Lauderdale-Pompano Bch-Deerfield Bch Metro Division had the second fastest annual job growth rate compared to all the metro areas in the state in the Leisure and Hospitality industry (+23.4%), adding 16,600 jobs.
Month to month growth comparison shows a decrease in two industries.

Florida’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was 5.0 percent in June 2021, up 0.1 percentage point from the May 2021 rate, and down 6.6 percentage points from a year ago. There were 523,000 jobless Floridians out of a labor force of 10,398,000. The U.S. unemployment rate was 5.9 percent in June. Florida’s seasonally adjusted total nonagricultural employment was 8,698,200 in June 2021, an increase of 81,300 jobs (+0.9 percent) over the month. The state gained 358,300 jobs over the year, an increase of 4.3 percent. Nationally, the number of jobs rose 5.7 percent over the year.
The June 2021 labor force statistics and the total nonagricultural employment have not reached the pre-pandemic levels in February 2020.
The unemployment rate in Palm Beach County was 5.3 percent in June 2021. This rate was 6.2 percentage points lower than the region's year ago rate of 11.5 percent. The labor force was 753,074, up 46,677 (+6.6) over the year. There were 40,254 unemployed residents in the region. In June 2021, nonagricultural employment in the West Palm Bch-Boca Raton-Delray Bch Metro Division was 614,400, an increase of 30,200 jobs (+5.2 percent) over the year.
For Miami-Dade County, the unemployment rate was 7.1 percent in June 2021. This rate was 3.0 percentage points lower than the region's year ago rate of 10.1 percent. In June 2021, nonagricultural employment in the Miami-Miami Beach-Kendall Metropolitan Division was 1,139,300, an increase of 45,300 jobs (+4.1 percent) over the year. In June 2021, the labor force was 1,321,592, up 135,915 (+10.3 percent) over the year. There were 93,206 unemployed residents in the region.
