Urban League Receives Grant to Provide Workforce Training for Entry Healthcare Jobs

Fort Lauderdale, FL - June 7, 2023. The HCA Healthcare Foundation has awarded a $130,000 grant to the Urban League of Broward County to train under-employed and unemployed individuals from targeted zip codes to obtain certifications in low-barrier to entry healthcare jobs.

Awarded as part of the Foundation's Healthier Tomorrow Fund, the grant will allow the Urban League to expand its efforts to provide job training and career development opportunities to individuals from Broward Up Communities who are facing economic challenges. The grant will support a range of programs and initiatives that focus on preparing individuals for careers in healthcare, one of the fastest-growing industries in our region

At HCA Healthcare, we are committed to the care and improvement of human life," said Charles Gressle, HCA East Florida Division President. "This partnership with the Urban League will help improve the lives of community members who have been disconnected from the workforce. With proper support, they can get career coaching, explore jobs in healthcare and receive job placement assistance.

"We are grateful for the support of The HCA Foundation and for this opportunity to create pathways to sustainable employment and economic self-sufficiency," said Dr. Germaine Smith-Baugh, president and CEO of the Urban League. "This grant will allow us to equip individuals with the skills and certifications needed to enter and advance in the healthcare field, which will ultimately improve their economic mobility and quality of life."
