The Broward Center for the Performing Arts Maximizes Entertainment in March
FORT LAUDERDALE – It’s not only the name of the month but a direction for how fast fans should move to get tickets this March as the Broward Center for the Performing Arts presents Broadway musical blockbusters, theatrical dramas and comedies, legendary musicians, hilarious comics, a beloved childhood friend and events for the neuro-diverse community.
No experience is necessary to enjoy this interactive and engaging All Abilities event on Sunday, March 3 at 11 a.m. in the JM Family Studio and the David & I. Lorraine Thomas Creative Learning Suites. The class, designed for those on the autism spectrum as well as individuals with other developmental disabilities and their families, will be divided into one for ages 5-14 and another for those 15 and older. The event is followed by refreshments. All Abilities classes are made possible with support from the Taft Foundation.
The legendary Bob Dylan returns to the Au-Rene Theater for two nights in concerts presented by the Broward Center for the Performing Ars and AEG Presents on Friday March 1 at 8 p.m. and Saturday, March 2 at 8 p.m. From New York City’s Greenwich Village folk music scene in the early 1960s to receiving the Nobel Prize in literature, Dylan is one of our culture’s most influential and groundbreaking artists. Use of phones, smart watches and accessories will not be permitted in the performance space. Upon arrival at the venue, all phones, smart watches, and accessories will be secured in individual Yondr pouches that will be opened at the end of the event. Anyone seen using a device during the performance will be escorted out of the venue by security.

A night of stand-up comedy featuring comedians from the Letterkenny Family comes to the Amaturo Theater at the Broward Center with Letterkenny Presents: A Night of Stand Up presented by the Broward Center for the Performing Arts and AEG Presents on Wednesday, March 6 at 7:30 p.m. Headlined by the always hilarious Mark Forward (Coach), the show also features Jeff McEnery (Alexander). All ticket orders will be limited to four tickets. Any orders exceeding the 4-ticket limit are subject to cancellation without notice.
The dynamic and passionate Soul Train Award-winning vocalist and actress Nicole Henry delivers Wanna Dance With Somebody: Songs of Whitney Houston to remind audiences of “The Greatest Love of All” in the Amaturo Theater at the Broward Center on Thursday, March 7 at 7:30 p.m. As part of the TD Jazz Series, Henry shares her personal journeys through Whitney Houston's most beloved hits as she celebrates Houston's messages of courage, truth and love, which are also themes Henry clings to in her life's quest. Houston was one of the greatest and most beloved singers of our time whose musical contributions will remain in the American music lexicon for generations through her timeless classics "I Have Nothing," "Didn't We Almost Have It All," "I'm Your Baby Tonight" and "I Will Always Love You," among others.
The Truist Comedy Series presents Jimmy Failla: Everybody Calm Down Tour bringing the stand-up comedian, TV pundit and author to the Amaturo Theater at the Broward Center on Friday, March 8 at 7:30 p.m. Named Outstanding Male Comedian of the Year at the 2014 New York City Nightlife Awards, the former New York City cab driver is host of the syndicated FOX Across America with Jimmy Failla, which is also available as a podcast. His one-hour standup special State Of The Union is currently streaming on Amazon Prime, and he has also made multiple standup appearances on AXS TV's Gotham Comedy Live in addition to playing himself on The Jim Gaffigan Show on TV LAND. He appears regularly on Kennedy on the Fox Business Channel as well as America's Newsroom. He has also been seen on The Greg Gutfeld Show, The Ingraham Angle, Watters World and The Story with Marth MacCallum. Failla is the head writer for A-List Comedy, a national comedy service that supplies topical humor and audio sketches to more than 200 radio stations.
Award-winning and internationally acclaimed performers Debra Ehrhardt and Christopher Grossett bring Look What Fell Out De Mango Tree, Ehrhardt's new play, to the Amaturo Theater at the Broward Center on Saturday, March 16 at 7:30 p.m. Based on her life story, Ehrhardt's play explores the importance of forgiveness and the power of vulnerability as she uncovers a big secret that unlocks her ability to forgive and transforms her relationship with men. The production is directed by director-songwriter-composer Paul Williams. This event is part of the Broward Center’s Arts for Action: Black Voices initiative presented by Baptist Health and JM Family Enterprises, Inc. and includes a moderated post-show talkback with the artists immediately following the performance. This special event is presented under the distinguished patronage of R. Oliver Mair, Jamaica’s Consul General, Southern USA.
Brazilian Voices “Quiet Bossa,” delivers a sensory-inclusive performance in the Abdo New River Room at the Broward Center on Saturday, March 17 at 11 a.m. creates a welcoming and supportive environment for children and adults on the autism spectrum as well as individuals with other sensitivity issues or developmental disabilities. With familiar songs intended to soothe and inspire, this one-hour musical experience features the voices of the group’s award-winning female singers, light percussion and guitar. The program includes Bossa Nova favorites like “The Girl from Ipanema,” “Summer Samba” (“Samba de verão”) and “Mas que Nada” as well as American standards “Fly Me to the Moon,” “Isn’t She Lovely” and “Happy.” To encourage participation, Brazilian Voices will share egg-shaped musical shakers that the audience may keep to carry the music home. Audiences enjoy a post-show meet and greet with cast members. An area adjacent to the theater has been designated as the ABA Centers of Florida Sensory Quiet Room with a specially trained therapist to provide audience support. Paul Anka performs his greatest hits in the Au-Rene Theater at the Broward Center on Monday, March 18 at 8 p.m. This songwriting master and incomparable performer penned “She's a Lady” for Tom Jones, “This Is It” for Michael Jackson and “My Way” for Frank Sinatra. One of the most prolific and versatile singer-songwriters of any generation, Anka has had a record on Billboard's Top 50 chart for seven consecutive decades and is famous for such massive hits like "Diana," "Lonely Boy" and "Put Your Head on My Shoulder.”
Ultimate Ladies Night Out with Taylor Dayne, Sheena Easton & Tiffany comes to the Au-Rene Theater at the Broward Center on Thursday, March 21 at 7:30 p.m. These artists have done it all from being ranked as the Number 18 Female Dance Artist of all time by Rolling Stone (Dayne) to shaking it with Prince (Easton) to setting a record as the youngest female artist to top the Billboard charts (Tiffany). With 17 Top 20 singles that include "Tell It To My Heart," Love Will Lead You Back," "Prove Your Love" and "I'll Always Love You," Dayne has earned three Grammy® nominations, an American Music Award, multiple New York Music Awards and received New York Music Hall of Fame honors. The first, and still only, artist to have top five records on five major Billboard charts in addition to having taken home two Grammys, Easton topped the charts with hits including “Strut,” “Sugar Walls,” “Morning Train (Nine to Five)” and the James Bond movie theme “For Your Eyes Only.” She’s also held more than her own in duets with superstars Prince (“U Got the Look”) and Kenny Rogers (“We’ve Got Tonight”). Now in its seventh year of touring, this production brings your favorite characters hopping back on board the trolley and coming to the Au-Rene Theater at the Broward Center as part of the Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital Imagination Series with the grr-ific musical for little tigers and grown-ups alike in Daniel Tiger's Neighborhood Live: King For A Day! on Friday, March 22 at 6 p.m. The hugely popular Daniel Tiger's Neighborhood LIVE!, based on the no. 1 PBS KIDS TV series, has delighted live audiences on stages across the country. Daniel and all of his friends invite you for a brand-new adventure in the Neighborhood of Make-Believe where Daniel learns just what it takes to be King. The beloved characters come alive on stage to captivate audiences with new songs to sing along to, magical moments and surprise guests along the way. It's a royally great time filled with tigertastic fun, teaching the valuable lessons of kindness, helping others and being a friend.
Thinking Cap Theatre presents The Taming of the Shrew in the Abdo New River Room at the Broward Center March 22 – April 3. This comedy epitomizes the age-old battle of the sexes in the tumultuous courtship of the characters Katherina and Petruchio and has become one of Shakespeare's most controversial works dividing audiences on whether the playwright was a misogynist or a proto-feminist. Thinking Cap's innovative new revival will allow performers and audiences alike to experience and judge different casting and directorial choices in real time to explore our shifting perceptions of what’s playable, offensive or funny. This production is part of The People vs. Shakespeare’s Shrew, a multifaceted project that invites audiences to engage deeply with this problem play through complementary programming that includes staged readings of Shakespeare's first folio script and John Fletcher’s 1611 response play entitled The Woman’s Prize or the Tamer Tamed. The production also features Sunday talkbacks with the cast and creative team and Shakespeare Was Here, a six-episode podcast series with Shakespeare practitioners and scholars. The Taming of the Shrew is presented as part of the Broward Center’s Arts Access Program, which assists community-based organizations in presenting arts and cultural performances at the Broward Center. Slow Burn Theatre Company presents The Prom, the musical about which Variety raved, “It’s so full of happiness that you think your heart is about to burst,” from Saturday, March 23 through Sunday, April 7 in the Amaturo Theater at the Broward Center with an open captioned performance on Sunday, March 31 at 2 p.m. generously underwritten by the Amaturo Family Foundation. Winner of The Drama Desk Award for Best New Musical, The Prom follows four eccentric Broadway stars who are on a mission to transform lives when they discover the plight of a student who just wants to bring her girlfriend to prom and soon her entire town has a date with destiny. Expertly capturing all the humor and heart of a classic musical comedy with a message that resonates with audiences now more than ever, The Prom features a book by Tony® Award winner Bob Martin (The Drowsy Chaperone) and Tony Award nominee Chad Beguelin (Aladdin), music by Tony® Award nominee Matthew Sklar (Elf) and lyrics by Tony® Award nominee Chad Beguelin. The most exciting and innovative Black voices in Broward County take center stage at Rhythm by the River, Sunday, March 24 from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Esplanade Park. On the main stage, Lauderhill Steel Ensemble kicks off the afternoon’s concert lineup with calypso flair. Jazz saxophonist Randy Corinthian is joined by talented musicians with a soulful and sophisticated set of upbeat smooth jazz hits. South Florida’s favorite roots reggae band Jah Steve & the Counteract Crew is set to blend sweet reggae tunes that will get the audience on their feet. Emmy-nominated singer/songwriter and impact artist Alexander Star, who most recently appeared in the Tournament of Roses Parade on board Visit Lauderdale’s float, performs as the day’s grand finale. Additional festivities include free arts and crafts and interactive games in the Baptist Health Activity Zone as well as food trucks and a variety of free community workshops held in the Broward Center’s Mary N. Porter Riverview Ballroom. Now in its third year, Rhythm by the River is part of the Broward Center for the Performing Arts’ Arts for Action: Black Voices initiative, presented by Baptist Health and JM Family Enterprises, Inc., which focuses on how the arts and artists can be a force for change in addressing critical issues of social justice and racial inequality.
The Broward Center for the Performing Arts and AEG Presents bring Joey Fatone and AJ McLean to the Au-Rene Theater on Thursday, March 28 at 8 p.m. Fatone first rose to fame as a member of the record-shattering, multi-platinum boyband *NSYNC before establishing himself as an actor, host, Broadway star, voiceover artist, dancer and media personality with a number of hit television shows under his belt. As one-fifth of the Backstreet Boys, McLean was in one of the most successful groups in music history. A multiple award winning and Grammy-nominated performer, he has delivered tightly crafted songs, floor-shaking rhythms and unmistakable harmonies making him one of pop's most influential performers.
South Florida’s regional arts organizations also take the stage in March with South Florida Symphony: Masterworks III (March 3), Arts Ballet Theatre of Florida: Program III - Le Papillon (March 9) and Gold Coast Jazz Society presents Cyrille Aimee Quartet (March 13).
