Guy Harvey Foundation Hosts Successful First-Ever Conservation Education Training in the Florida Keys
Sponsored by Surf Style, 100+ educators participated in hands-on activities, in-classroom STEAM training and coral restoration snorkeling
Fort Lauderdale, Fla. (November 20, 2025) – More than 100 elementary, middle and high school teachers from all over Florida recently joined the Guy Harvey Foundation (GHF) for a professional development training session at the newly opened Reef Environmental Education Foundation (REEF) Campus in Key Largo as part of the Guy Harvey Conservation Education Program for educators that launched last year. Made possible by the generous support from Surf Style, one of the largest beachwear and souvenir retailers in the United States, the two-day event was the first-ever Conservation Education Training session that GHF has hosted in the Florida Keys.
Led by ocean experts from the GHF, REEF and the Coral Restoration Foundation (CRF) educators participated in unique hands-on activities and in-classroom STEAM training. Highlights included teachers snorkeling through CRF’s iconic Carysfort Coral Tree Nursery with coral restoration experts and learning about their efforts as they experienced first-hand the important work being done to restore coral in the Florida Keys. Educators also learned about shark classification and anatomy, shark tagging and tracking, lionfish anatomy and the impact they have as an invasive species, lionfish hunt, and more.
"We are deeply grateful to Surf Style for bringing the Guy Harvey Conservation Education Program to the Florida Keys," said Guy Harvey Foundation CEO Jessica Harvey. “Thanks to Surf Style and to all our generous supporters, we can continue to develop and host these leading-edge educational programs that inspire and empower educators and their students. It is incumbent upon all of us to ensure that future generations can enjoy and benefit from a properly balanced ocean ecosystem.”
The immersive, innovative and experiential Guy Harvey Conservation Education Program is open to all elementary, middle and high school educators. Training includes all the materials, classroom supplies and educational content they need to inspire and excite the next generation of stewards of ocean conservation.
In addition to sponsoring this two-day training session at the REEF Campus, Surf Style is also funding marine education field trips through the GHF’s “Get Kids Salty” initiative.
“It is a privilege to partner with the Guy Harvey Foundation and do our part to help expand their Conservation Education Program and reach more teachers across the state,” said Surf Style’s Marketing Director Tara Malinasky. “It is critical that we continue to educate our future ocean conservationists. Together we can make a global impact.”
