BCPS Honors 2026 Career and Technical Education Teacher of the Year

Broward County Public Schools (BCPS) honored top Career and Technical Education (CTE) teachers during an awards ceremony Thursday evening, February 26, 2026. The event was presented by the BCPS Career, Technical, Adult and Community Education Department.

Congratulations to Jason Freedman, Game and Simulation/Animation Programming Teacher at Coral Springs High School for being named 2026 Career and Technical Education Teacher of the Year (pictured center). Freedman says teaching in this field combines his passion for technology with the gratification of shaping future innovators.

“The most rewarding aspect is watching students transform their imaginative ideas into tangible, interactive experiences,” Freedman said. “This field is not just about coding or designing; it's about storytelling, problem-solving and creativity. Seeing students excel in these areas is incredibly fulfilling. Their growth from novices to skilled creators capable of producing professional-quality work is what drives my dedication to teaching CTE.”

Also honored:

  • CTE Runner-Up Teacher of the Year, Philip Alleman, Drafting teacher at Atlantic Technical College and Technical High School – “There truly is nothing more gratifying than helping students who start the program with no prior drafting knowledge and watching them develop their skills in manual drafting, CAD (Computer-Aided Design), Building Information Modeling and three-dimensional printing, so that they can create a diversified portfolio and get a job in the drafting industry,” Alleman said. “My classroom now serves as a place where I can combine my skills and industry experience to prepare the next generation of professionals for successful careers in drafting, just as my mentors once guided me.”
  • CTE Rookie Teacher of the Year, Jeanne Bermudez, Advanced Information Technology and Foundation of Programming Teacher at Fort Lauderdale High School – “We live in a rapidly evolving world that requires students to learn advanced theories and concepts, and understand applications as well,” Bermudez said. “CTE provides hands-on experience and classroom freedom for teachers to properly prepare students for real-world jobs.”
