BCPS Celebrates 2026 Community Involvement Awards Winners
Broward County Public Schools (BCPS) proudly congratulates the winners of the 2026 Community Involvement Awards (CIA), who were recognized during a ceremony held on Wednesday, April 29, 2026. More than 800 attendees gathered to celebrate the District’s exceptional family and community engagement contributions, honoring the individuals and organizations whose commitment continues to enrich student success across Broward County.
This year’s event highlighted the powerful impact of collaboration between schools and the community, honoring mentors, partners, volunteers and advocates who go above and beyond in support of education. BCPS proudly recognizes Microsoft Elevate, this year’s Presenting Sponsor, whose support helped make the celebration possible. The District also extends special appreciation to Platinum Sponsor BrightStar Credit Union, a longstanding supporter of District events.
DISTRICT PARTNER OF THE YEAR AWARD
WPLG Local 10 – Recognized for its longstanding partnership supporting literacy, celebrating educators and meeting student needs through initiatives such as book drives, teacher recognition programs and campus support efforts.
MUNICIPAL PARTNER OF THE YEAR AWARD
City of Plantation – Honored for its strong collaboration with schools, contributing thousands of volunteer hours and providing meaningful civic, environmental and career-connected learning opportunities.
SCHOOL-BASED PARTNER OF THE YEAR AWARDS
- Elementary School Level: HandsOn South Florida with Rock Island Elementary School – Transformed campus spaces and created hands-on learning environments through large-scale volunteer engagement.
- Middle School Level: The Crockett Foundation with Margate Middle School – Provides extensive STEM programming and real-world learning experiences that prepare students for future careers.
- High School Level: 5000 Role Models of Excellence Project with Hollywood Hills High School – Delivers impactful mentoring focused on academic success, leadership and personal growth.
SUPERINTENDENT’S STUDENT AWARD
Cherish Samuel, Miramar High School – Completed more than 2,300 service hours while supporting school operations and athletics, demonstrating exceptional dedication and leadership.
FAMILY AND COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT AWARDS
- Individual of the Year: Seth Hyman – A passionate advocate for individuals with disabilities, advancing awareness and support for families and students.
- Group of the Year: Dennis Tennis Serving Love – Expands access to tennis and mentorship opportunities for youth in underserved communities.
MENTOR OF THE YEAR AWARDS
- Elementary School Level: Darryl Wilson, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Elementary School – Guides students through mentorship focused on academic and personal development.
- Secondary (Middle and High School) Level: Joyce Davis, Olsen Middle School – Empowers young girls through confidence-building and positive decision-making.
- Peer Mentoring: Christopher White, Hollywood Hills High School – Demonstrates leadership and service through peer mentorship and school involvement.
MENTOR PROGRAM OF THE YEAR AWARD
Safe Schools South Florida – Promotes safe, inclusive environments through advocacy, education and support for students and families.
VOLUNTEER OF THE YEAR AWARDS
- District Advisory/Committee: Jacqui Luscombe – A dedicated leader advocating for families and students through the ESE Advisory Committee.
- Adult: Enrique Rodriguez, Sr., Pembroke Lakes Elementary School – Strengthens school communication and engagement through innovation and service.
- Senior: Johnny McCray, Jr., Boyd H. Anderson High School – Provides mentorship and coaching that impacts students’ academic and personal growth.
- Youth: Mia Rose Suarez, Hollywood Hills High School – Demonstrates leadership and inclusion through extensive service and peer support.
ONE BROWARD SCHOOL SUPPORT INITIATIVE
Recognizing BCPS employees who volunteer in schools across the District:
- Employee Champion: María F. Barragán-Casado, Mental Health Services Department
- Department of Distinction: Mental Health Services Department
The ceremony also featured outstanding student performances and contributions from schools across the District, showcasing the depth of talent and dedication within BCPS.
The Community Involvement Awards program reflects the District’s ongoing commitment to building strong partnerships that support student achievement and well-being. Through the collective efforts of families, educators, community partners and volunteers, BCPS continues to create opportunities that empower students to succeed.
