Broward County Public Schools (BCPS) congratulates four outstanding students who have been named recipients of prestigious National Merit $2,500 Scholarships by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC). Selected from more than 15,000 finalists nationwide, the students were recognized for their exceptional academic achievement, leadership and potential for success in rigorous college studies.

BCPS National Merit $2,500 Scholarships recipients:

  • Rickey Liu, Cypress Bay High School
  • Austin J. Campos, Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School
  • Kevin Liu, Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School
  • Isabella Maria Borges, West Broward High School

The National Merit $2,500 Scholarship winners are chosen by a committee of college admissions officers and high school counselors who evaluate academic records, PSAT/NMSQT® scores, extracurricular involvement, essays and recommendations from school officials.

“We are incredibly proud of these students for earning one of the nation’s most prestigious academic honors,” said BCPS Superintendent Dr. Howard Hepburn. “Their dedication, perseverance and commitment to excellence reflect the outstanding opportunities and support provided throughout BCPS.”

NMSC funds most National Merit $2,500 Scholarships, with additional support from corporate sponsors and donations to the organization’s President’s Fund. Scholarships may be used at any regionally accredited U.S. college or university.

Additional announcements from NMSC will name recipients of College-sponsored Merit Scholarship awards on June 3 and July 13, 2026.
