JetBlue grows Fort Lauderdale presence with new route, sponsorship

JetBlue Airways launched a new international route from Fort Lauderdale and signed a sponsorship deal with a major Broward County performing arts venue as the carrier expands its presence in South Florida.

The New York-based airline (Nasdaq: JBLU) began daily nonstop service Oct. 1 between Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport and Ernesto Cortissoz International Airport in Barranquilla, Colombia. Flights operate on Airbus A320 aircraft.

Barranquilla is JetBlue's third destination in Colombia, joining Medellín and Cartagena. Daily service between Fort Lauderdale and Cali is scheduled to begin Oct. 15, bringing the airline's Colombian network to four destinations.

The Barranquilla flight departs Fort Lauderdale at 11:05 a.m. and arrives at 12:55 p.m. local time, while the return flight departs Barranquilla at 2:05 p.m. and arrives in Fort Lauderdale at 5:56 p.m.

JetBlue's route is part of a broader expansion at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport.
