New Certificate of Use Program Launches October 1
Certificate of Use
The Certificate of Use (CU) Program verifies that a business can operate at a specific location in the City of Fort Lauderdale and is permitted in the applicable zoning district. Many cities utilize a CU as a tool to assist businesses owners so they can make an informed decision prior to incurring costs or potential code violations.
Benefits of a Certificate of Use
The CU process will help to strengthen and create a more predictable regulatory environment that improves the application review process for business owners. Benefits include:
- Saving time by identifying issues upfront before hiring a design team, contractor, or purchasing property.
- Peace of mind knowing what is needed to operate a business in a location.
- Reducing costs from potential violations, hiring an attorney or signing a lease.
- More efficient review and approval process.
- Enhanced customer service through the process resulting in solutions.
- Becomes a tool for property owners or realtors use to find space for clients.
